About Our Staff
Patrick Arnold, Co-Owner Patrick is a native of Denver and wouldn’t have it any other way. He was conned into the sewing machine industry by his brother 15 years ago, and he hasn’t looked back since. Patrick has been formally trained as a technician by 4 different sewing machine companies and likes nothing better then to hear someone say that their machine hasn’t worked better then after he worked on it. Patrick is married to Coral and has two sons.
Kate McMillan, Co-Owner Kate came to us from Jolly Old England and has been a sewing enthusiast since her teenage years. Kate brings a multitude of knowledge and experience to our store. She is an expert quilter, especially when it comes to free motion. She also is incredible with the serger and can show you things that you never realized that it could do. Kate is married to Michael and has three sons.
Ria Schaeffer, Sales Associate & Teacher Ria was the first person we went to when we decided to open the store and she has been with us from the very beginning, making her own F.E. (first employee.) She maintains an incredibly busy life as she not only works for Above & Beyond, but also teaches aerobics and swimming all over the metro area. Ria gives us a ton of talent in the sewing and embroidery area and has been in the industry for over 5 years. Ria is married to Owen and has one daughter and two sons.
Anita Linquist, Sales Associate & Teacher Anita came to our staff shortly after we opened and continues to amaze us with her knowledge and friendliness to everyone who walks through the door. She’s an active member of the American Sewing Guild and currently is President of a chapter that meets in our store. Anita has been in the sewing industry over 5 years. Anita is married to Doug and has two sons & five granddaughters.
Pat Donovan, Sales Associate & Teacher Pat is our newest staff member and we are thrilled she joined our team. She is so excited about her Ellegante she just had to start selling them herself. Pat has been learning sewing techniques for many years and was a frequent visitor to our classroom before joining our staff. Hopefully you will see Pat sharing her passion for many years to come. Pat is married and has one daughter.

Above & Beyond Sewing and Vacuum was founded in 2005 by Patrick Arnold and Kathryn McMillan. Patrick and Kate had a dream of providing a refreshing alternative to the Denver home sewing and quilting market. We are a full service sewing machine store that caters to all levels of sewers, no matter what your interest, or what type of sewing machine you own. We pride ourselves in our classroom and we offer the largest selection of sewing and quilting classes of any single sewing location in the state of Colorado.
