About Our Staff

Patrick Arnold, Co-Owner
Patrick is a native of Denver and wouldn’t have it any other way.  He was conned into the sewing machine industry by his brother 15 years ago, and he hasn’t looked back since.  Patrick has been formally trained as a technician by 4 different sewing machine companies and likes nothing better than to hear someone say that their machine hasn’t worked better then after he worked on it. 

Kate McMillan, Co-Owner
Kate came to us from Jolly Old England and has been a sewing enthusiast since her teenage years.  Kate brings a multitude of knowledge and experience to our store.  She is an expert quilter, especially when it comes to free motion.  She also is incredible with the serger and can show you things that you never realized that it could do. 

Mark McMillan, Store Manager Thornton
Mark was recruited to the company over 3 years ago by, you guessed it, his sister Kate. He is an expert on all things vacuums. Mark runs the Thornton store with efficiency and pride.

Jennie Miller, Sales floor manager Thornton
Jennie has worked with Patrick and Kate for over 16 years and brings a wealth of sewing and quilting knowledge to our team. Jennie keeps very busy with her husband, children and grandchildren and still fits time to work a full time schedule. Just don’t ask her to cook, she leaves that up to her husband.

Matt McMillan, Vacuum Technician Thornton
That’s right, another McMillan. Matt is Kate’s middle son and has been servicing your vacuums for over 2 years now. When he is not getting his hands dirty, he is going to school for his accounting degree and playing hockey on more teams then we can count.

Elaine Schley, Store Manager Aurora
When we opened the Aurora store 3 years ago we couldn’t have found a better person to get that store up and running. Elaine brings us 8 years of sewing store managing experience. She is very dedicated to her store and it shows with how nice and pleasant it is every time you walk through the door.

Claudia Halterman, Sales floor manager Aurora
Believe it or not, Claudia actually trained Patrick and Kate in the sewing market over 16 years ago. She is the most knowledgeable and organized person you will ever meet and we are thrilled that she is on our team.

Barb Brown, Sunday Sales Associate Aurora
If you come in during our Sunday hours, you will invariably meet Barb. She has worked the Sunday shift since we opened the Aurora location and always has a smiling face when you come in to see her. Barb is an avid embroiderer, and loves to make her own jams and jellies.

Val Summerville, Sunday Sales Associate Thornton
Val has been in the sewing industry for over 7 years, and brings a wealth of knowledge to our team. She works some of our Sunday shifts, and also helps out for our many special events.

Anita Linquist, Sunday Sales Associate Thornton
Anita has worked on and off with us for over 5 years and is a favorite with our customers. She is the sweetest person you will ever meet, and oh by the way, she is also an incredible seamstress.

Above & Beyond Sewing and Vacuum was founded in 2005 by Patrick Arnold and Kathryn McMillan.  Patrick and Kate had a dream of providing a refreshing alternative to the Denver home sewing and quilting market.  We are a full service sewing machine store that caters to all levels of sewers, no matter what your interest, or what type of sewing machine you own.  We pride ourselves in our classroom and we offer the largest selection of sewing and quilting classes of any single sewing location in the state of Colorado.
